Psychotherapy includes a range of techniques intended to improve psychological and behavioural issues experienced by people of all walks of life.
As a therapist, the focus is upon understanding your core beliefs and emotions and helping you to bring about the acceptance or change you seek. This is done by careful evaluation, initially talking and by working together, both therapist and client, to bring about the desired outcome.
My job as your therapist, is to provide the supportive conditions to help you to grow, learn, heal and become empowered. Because sensitive topics are often discussed during psychotherapy, therapists are expected, and legally bound, to respect patient privacy and client confidentiality.
Identifying and working through the beliefs that you have about yourself, beliefs often established in early life and adolescence, can have a profound effect on how you feel about yourself, your life and your relationships today. If you have relationship difficulties; feel that you might benefit from couples counselling or have issues related to anger management, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, stress or low self-confidence, then you might be surprised just how quickly it can be possible to make the changes that you are looking for. In addition to my work as a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist I also work as a coach, trainer and hypnotherapist and I integrate these approaches into my work when it is appropriate to do so. Various approaches may be explored including ‘Mindfulness’ and coping strategies.
I work with both individuals and couples and I am pragmatic in my approach to my work. When people come to see me they are usually feeling quite low. They have often tried unsuccessfully to deal with a particular issue through a variety of approaches and tend to be looking for the quickest and most effective way to change how they feel or behave. I offer a supportive environment in which to explore feelings and resolve issues. I am also a fully trained telephone counsellor for clients who have difficulty travelling or do not wish to work on a face to face basis.
